THE JOY OF READING TO KIDS WITH SENIOR VOLUNTEERS

CENTRE D’ACTION BÉNÉVOLE SAINT-JÉRÔME : LOCAL BRANCH

‘‘Read and encourage reading’’ is a Quebec-wide program. During the school year, senior volunteer readers visit schools to read stories to children. Each volunteer reader has his or her own group of children.

It is an approach based on the pleasure of reading and the joys of inter-generational sharing.

Read and encourage reading HAS TWO OBJECTIVES:

  • To stimulate the pleasure of reading and the enjoyment for books in children;
  • To encourage the creation of bonds between generations;

Without the contribution of the City of Saint-Jérôme library, such a project would not have been possible.
