DESCRIPTION

The Centre d’Action Bénévole Saint-Jérôme received a recognition certificate from the Ministère de la Santé et des Services sociaux, certifying that transportation services are provided by volunteers in accordance with the laws applicable to taxi services.

This service provides a reassuring presence, as well as physical or psychological support. It answers a growing need for seniors, especially those experiencing autonomy loss. The notion of support emphasizes the importance of this specific service.

Most requests are for medical appointments. They are carried out locally, in Montreal hospitals and elsewhere as the case may be. In addition, other organizations use our centre for users who are often very vulnerable and require the presence of a volunteer (Public Guardianship). We also assist accompaniers with their banking, pharmacy needs, groceries and other senior activities.

Also, the centre provides services allowing a senior to visit his/her spouse during hospital stays or in a shelter.

Rates as of April 1, 2022: For local trips (30 km or less), the rate is $15. For long distance travel (more than 30 km), the rate is $0.50 per km. Receipts are available on request.

  • Afterwards, a volunteer is designated to carry out the transportation.
  • The exact time we will pick up the user is confirmed by the volunteer driver two days before the appointment, before 19:30.
  • A financial contribution is paid by the user directly to the volunteer driver on site. The cost is determined by the board of directors according to established benchmarks.
  • The user may be accompanied.
  • The volunteer stays with the user and accompanies them as much as possible throughout their appointment while respecting the COVID-19 guidelines of the visited establishment(s).
  • Eligible individuals who receive financial support from organizations such as: Ministère du travail, Emplois et Solidarité, SAAQ, CSST, must pay their travel expenses directly to the volunteer at the time of travel. THE JOY OF READING TO KIDS WITH SENIOR VOLUNTEERS

CENTRE D’ACTION BÉNÉVOLE SAINT-JÉRÔME : LOCAL BRANCH

‘‘Read and encourage reading’’ is a Quebec-wide program. During the school year, senior volunteer readers visit schools to read stories to children. Each volunteer reader has his or her own group of children.

It is an approach based on the pleasure of reading and the joys of inter-generational sharing.

Read and encourage reading HAS TWO OBJECTIVES:

  • To stimulate the pleasure of reading and the enjoyment of books in children.
  • To encourage the creation of bonds between generations.

Without the contribution of the City of Saint-Jérôme library, such a project would not be possible.
